Want to find a friend who is a close friend of you in school? or somebody you met suddendly and you liked him/her and went on missing …….  whozat  can be your place to find people from the web .A new people search engine which allows you to find people from different social networking  sites. The social networking sites includes LinkedIn,IMDB,FaceBook,My Space,Youtube etc. This allows you to have an extensive search of the people from various countries and various places .

Whozat? also boasts a people-centric UI, machine vision to find photos of the people you are looking for, automatic tag extraction to describe a person at a glance, and “It’zat” and “Not zat” feedback buttons that allow searchers to tell Whozat? whether a person, URL or tag is relevant or not to their search, immediately customizing results accordingly. These interactive features make searches with Whozat? a conversation rather than a one-way street. Whozat? even allows searchers to specify the age (“‘zat old?”), location (“where ‘zat?”) and/or sex of the person sought, and finds related people, too. Viewzi – A New Age Search Engine

May 16, 2008 by madhu

Search Engines these days trying to be more interactive and user friendly.Viwezi is one of those search engines which uses the latest search engine technology .Viewzi is a whole new way to experience search. Instead of one big list, you get nice visual Views tailored for the content you are looking for .It as all the search features as other search engines like Google,Yahoo etc.In my early posts I have come down with new age search engines with keyword as well as phrases based tools like surchur, yahoo’s glue pages .

So,Is it unique to other search engines ?

The answer is a big YES!

How is it differs?

With traditional text-based search engines, no matter what or how you search, your results are basically the same. Searching for Bono looks the same as searching for chicken recipes or sports cars:

Most important one i can say is its navigation style .It has a “view mix mode” which helps you to navigate through various screen like webscreenshot view, video 3xview,basic photoview, sources view ,weather view, amozon book view etc.You would be able to magnify these views by just navigating through the options. Its slick and looks wounderful to navigate.

First, a web screenshot view with an actual screenshot of the pages in the search results from various sources. A basic photo view displaying results from popular image sharing sites Also a videox3 view which displays the reslts from different sources like youtube.blinxtv ,veoh.A simple text view from various souces like Google,Yahoo and MSN.Viewzi also includes other views like mp3 search view, celebrity photo view,Tech crunch view, reuters news view and a shopping view.

Over all its a good search engine looks slick and has different views which makes it differ from other search engines. However  watchout for the Mp3 view if your trying to listen to the songs related to your search then your wrong you may end up listening to some chinese or an arabic songs!

Currently not available for everyone if you want to have a look at this you need to register for a preview.

Microsoft Brings WorldWideTelescope to your Desktop

May 15, 2008 by madhu

The final frontier got a bit closer as Microsoft Corp officially launched the public beta of its WorldWide Telescope . WorldWide Telescope is a rich Web application that brings together imagery from the best ground- and space-based observatories across the world to allow people to easily explore the night sky through their computers. WorldWide Telescope has been eagerly anticipated by the astronomical and educational communities as a compelling astronomical resource for students and lifelong learners, and as a way to make science fun for children.

The service goes well beyond the simple browsing of images. Users can choose which telescope they want to look through, including the Hubble Space Telescope, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory Center, the Spitzer Space Telescope or others. They can view the locations of planets in the night sky — in the past, present or future. They can view the universe through different wavelengths of light to reveal hidden structures in other parts of the galaxy. Taken as a whole, the application provides a top-to-bottom view of the science of astronomy.

The application itself is a blend of software and Web 2.0 services created with the Microsoft high-performance Visual Experience Engine, which allows seamless panning and zooming around the heavens with rich image environments. WorldWide Telescope stitches together terabytes of high-resolution images of celestial bodies and displays them in a way that relates to their actual position in the sky. People can freely browse through the solar system, galaxy and beyond, or take advantage of a growing number of guided tours of the sky hosted by astronomers and educators at major universities and planetariums.Source:MS press.

You might think this is similiar to GoogleEarth than your wrong WorldwideTelescope helps to browse through various Galaxies present in th universe .It has a slick selection look and drag and drop options which really helps you to move around and play with it as you like .you need to download the software and get it installed in your computer .You can able to download the software here.

You can have an overview of the new Microsoft worldwideTelescope video here Thanks pcmech.

Power Set Unveils Wikipedia Search Tools

May 14, 2008 by madhu

Powerset a San Francisco-based company was founded in 2005 and is funded by Foundation Capital, Founders Fund, Paperboy Ventures, and a number of angel investors.

Powerset’s technology improves the entire search process. In the search box, you can express yourself in keywords, phrases, or simple questions. On the search results page, Powerset gives more accurate results, often answering questions directly, and aggregates information from across multiple articles. Finally, Powerset’s technology follows you into enhanced Wikipedia articles, giving you a better way to quickly digest and navigate content.

This has a “powerful”  search option for all the wikipedia articles in a more interactive manner with all the details of the article being shown up.Shows up revalant articles with factz adding to it.It also shows up all the articles in  wikipedia .

For instance if you type in it “Mahatma Gandhi” it brings you all the details regarding Mahatama in an interactive manner with proper descriptions added to it also shows up relavent articles too!

Cool “Powerset”!

Surchur -Latest keyword Based Search Tool

May 14, 2008 by madhu

Surchur is one the search tools which I have gone through recently .Its cool ,handy and slick . This is similiar to the “glue” pages which yahoo have recently launched . It diversifies the results of the keyword into different segments like pages from digg,del.icio.us,technorati.com ,pictures from flickr ,photobucket etc, news from google ,videos from youtube and metacafe ,ebay products and books from amozon ,awesome!. You can find different options like all ,pages ,videos etc which helps you to even segregate the search results to your interest. However it doesnt not provide you with an auto correct like what google provides you with.

For instance you type “aishwarya rai”  in the search box you can find all the search results in videos, pages, news etc instead of lots of webpages that gets display.

Another important feature is that it shows a descriptive summary of the contents its quite useful helps you to have a preview of the news before you click on it.

Cool tool also helpful for bloggers! .Have a look at it.

Facebook CTO Signs Off?

May 12, 2008 by madhu

Facebook’s chief technology officer Adam D’Angelo, a school friend of chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, is leaving the company.

The 23-year-old helped Facebook cope with its rapid expansion – the company has just borrowed another $100m to buy new servers. D’Angelo has a bachelor’s degree from California Institute of Technology. He was one of the first people Zuckerberg hired to help set the company up.

D’Angelo was feeling the pressure and, according to All Things Digital, believed his job no longer fitted with his interests and skills. He mailed Facebook staff on Friday saying he needed a break but would remain a strong supporter of the site.

He will not be replaced – instead, Facebook is looking to hire a vice president of engineering. Thanks theregister

Plaxo Introduces People Search – Find Friends by Name

May 12, 2008 by madhu

Plaxo lt has added a people search engine to help you find friends who may be using Plaxo but are not connected to you yet.

Earlier, you could search for people on Plaxo only if you remembered their email addresses but now they have relaxed the rules and lets you perform a search by name – very similar to Facebook or LinkedIn.

There’s a small difference though. Unlike people search in Facebook or LinkedIn which is open for non-registered users as well, Plaxo offers the search feature only if you have logged-in. Thanks Labnol for the tweet.
