Swami Vivekananda’s speech

May 9, 2008 by madhu

Swami Vivekananda (January 12 1863 -July 4 1902), whose pre-monastic name was Narendranath Dutta (Narendranath Dut-tta), was one of the most famous and influential spiritual leaders of the philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga. He was the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and the founder of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. He is a major figure in the history of the Hindu reform movements.

While he is widely credited with having uplifted his own nation, India, he simultaneously introduced Yoga and Vedanta to America and England with his seminal lectures and private discourses on Vedanta philosophy. Vivekananda was the first known Hindu Sage to come to the West, where he introduced Eastern thought at the World’s Parliament of Religions, in connection with the World’s Fair in Chicago, in 1893. Here, his first lecture, which started with this line “Sisters and Brothers of America,” ([1] – not his voice) made the audience clap for two minutes just to the address, for prior to this seminal speech, the audience was always used to this opening address: “Ladies and Gentlemen”. It was this speech that catapulted him to fame by his wide audiences in Chicago and then later everywhere else in America, including far-flung places such as Memphis Boston, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, and St. Louis.

Golden rules for finding your life partner by Rabbi Dov Heller, M.A.

May 9, 2008 by madhu
Golden rules for finding your life partner who is yet to find one.. For those who already have found, help some one else..
A relationship coach lays out his 5 golden rules for reviewing the prospects of long-term marital success.
When it comes to making the decision about choosing a life partner, no one wants to make a mistake.
Yet, with a divorce rate of close to 50 percent (in USA), it appears that many are making serious mistakes in their approach to finding Mr./Ms. Right!
If you ask most couples who are engaged why they’re getting married, they’ll say: “We’re in love.” I believe this is the #1 mistake people make when they date.
Choosing a life partner should never be based on love.
Though this may sound not politically correct, there’s a profound truth here. Love is not the basis for getting married. Rather, love is the result of a good marriage.
When the other ingredients are right, then the love will come.
Let me say it again You CANNOT build a lifetime relationship on love alone. You need a lot more. Here are 5 questions you must ask yourself if you’re serious about finding & keeping a lifepartner.

QUESTION #1

Do we share a common life purpose?

Why is this so important? Let me put it this way: If you’re married for 20 or 30 years, that’s a long time to live with someone. What do you plan to do with each other all that time? Travel, eat & jog together? You need to share something deeper & more meaningful. You need a common life purpose. Two things can happen in a marriage. You can grow together, or you can grow apart. 50 percent of the people out there are growing apart. To make a marriage work, you need to know what you want out of life – bottom line – & marry someone who wants the same thing.

QUESTION #2

Do I feel safe expressing my feelings & thoughts with this person?

This question goes to the core of the quality of your relationship. Feeling safe means you can communicate openly with this person. The basis of having good communication is trust- i.e. trust that I won’t get “punished” or hurt for expressing my honest thoughts & feelings. A colleague of mine defines an abusive person as someone with whom you feel afraid to express your thoughts & feelings. Be honest with yourself on this one. Make sure you feel emotionally safe with the person you plan to marry.

QUESTION #3

Is he/she a mensch? A mensch is someone who is a refined & sensitive person.

How can you test? Here are some suggestions. Do they work on personal growth on a regular basis? Are they serious about improving themselves? A teacher of mine defines a good person as “someone who is always striving to be good & do the right thing.” So ask about your significant other What do they do with their time? Is this person materialistic? Usually a materialistic person is not someone whose top priority is character refinement. There are essentially two types of people in the world: People who are dedicated to personal growth & people who are dedicated to seeking comfort. Someone whose goal in life is to be comfortable will put personal comfort ahead of doing the right thing. You need to know that before walking down the aisle.

QUESTION #4

How does he/she treat other people?

The one most important thing that makes any relationship work is the ability to give. By giving, we mean the ability to give another person pleasure. Ask: Is this someone who enjoys giving pleasure to others or are they wrapped up in themselves & self-absorbed? To measure this, think about the following: How do they treat people whom they do not have to be nice to, such as waiters, bus boys, taxi drivers, etc. How do they treat parents & siblings? Do they have gratitude & appreciation? If they don’t have gratitude for the people who have given them everything, you cannot expect that they’ll have gratitude for you-who can’t do nearly as much for them! Do they gossip & speak badly about others? Someone who gossips cannot be someone who loves others. You can be sure that someone who treats others poorly, will eventually treat you poorly as well.

QUESTION #5

Is there anything I’m hoping to change about this person after we’re married?

Too many people make the mistake of marrying someone with the intention of trying to “improve” them after they’re married. As a colleague of mine puts it, “You can probably expect someone to change after marriage for the worse!” If you cannot fully accept this person the way they are now, then you are not ready to marry them. In conclusion, dating doesn’t have to be difficult & treacherous. The key is to try leading a little more with your head & less with your heart. It pays to be as objective as possible when you are dating, to be sure to ask questions that will help you get to the key issues.Falling in love is a great feeling, but when you wake up with a ring on  our finger, you don’t want to find yourself in trouble because you didn’t do your homework. ..

Google Translate Service Now For Hindi

May 9, 2008 by madhu
googleGoogle has launched of Google Translate translation service for Hindi that enables automated translation between Hindi and English.

If users need to translate some text, a web page, or issue a query in Hindi and have results translated from English, they can do it at: http://www.google.com/translate_t. Of the total literate Indian population, only about 13% are English literate.

This launch is the latest in a series of updates that are all focused on making it easier for multi-lingual users in India.

Google’s made it real simple. Users need to only type in the word as it sounds using their regular keyboard. For example, type “mera” using regular English characters, hit the space bar, and it’ll get converted to the corresponding Hindi word. Users can also add an iGoogle gadget to their home page to do the same thing. This service is available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Apart from this users can also scrap their friends on Orkut and create and update their own blog in these five languages.

Yahoo India Unveils New Search Concept

May 8, 2008 by madhu

yahoo   Yahoo! India has announced the launch of a new concept for Yahoo! India Search called Glue Pages Beta, available only at www.yahoo.in.

This new search experience collates and integrates relevant information from across the Web onto a single “visual” search results page. Glue Pages Beta, which aggregates text, images, and video content, is available for select search terms across categories such as health, sports, entertainment, travel, technology, and finance.

Glue Pages Beta is useful when searching for topics with broad coverage across a variety of information sources. For example, a search for “diabetes” combines results from HowStuffWorks, Yahoo! Groups, Yahoo! Health, Yahoo! Answers, and blogs. A search for “How to” would include wikipedia, videos,  photos, and content from Yahoo! Answers.

The best part of the search is it shows the content on youtube as well.

Results will be displayed alongside classic Yahoo! India Search results. Users will also find links for other Glue Pages on topics related to their query.

Vodafone scores first deal to sell Apple’s iPhone

May 6, 2008 by madhu

Mobile phone group Vodafone scored its first deal to sell Apple Inc’s iPhone after the UK group lost out to Telefonica’s O2 to sell it in Britain.

Vodafone, the world’s largest mobile phone company by revenue, has been competing with operators and retailers to secure the right to sell the iPhone — the touch-screen device which combines Apple’s popular iPod music player, a video player and Web browser. Vodafone will sell the iPhone in 10 countries.

O2 has described the device as a star performer which draws increased numbers of customers into its stores.

Customers using the phone have also driven up data revenues by surfing the Internet and sending emails, a key attraction to operators as the cost of making calls decreases.

“Later this year, Vodafone customers in

·     Australia

·     The Czech Republic

·     Egypt

·     Greece

·     Italy

·     India

·     Portugal

·     New Zealand

·     South Africa and

·     Turkey

will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network,” the British-based firm said in a statement without giving any more details.

Dear Friends,

We are a group of software engineers, who are optimistic about Indian Politics, Indian Administration, Indian Judiciary and Indian Education System.

In short we wish to see an India that most of you visualize in your dreams. We made a beginning to this wild goose chase (Many people say so, but we believe that it is possible). We are starting a magazine ‘Simple Thoughts” .The magazine hosts the solutions given by software engineers on various problems of the country.

We call them “Simple Thoughts” bcoz they can be implemented in some proportion immediately though the results are long term based. In few days time, we will be releasing a hard copy of the magazine (Right now, you can find an E-Magazine at ).www.simplethots.com

Don’t think that this magazine is all about discussions and posting some comments. We will actually implement your thoughts and publish the progress of it.

This is a beginning, we want your support. We are a team of 30 for the time being but we want all of you to join us. We want the software community to accept and own this magazine.

If there are any mistakes, Plz correct them by sending an email to us, the magazine belongs to all of us.

Cheers,

Madhu
